Botak Cayden

Yes - Cayden is finally botak!

Connoisseur was really cool about it. Instead it was the people around him who got really nervous and excited. Connoisseur was more interested to catch up on his nap rather than getting his hair shaved... hence he was actually more cranky than cool.

The entire family couldn't bear to see Cayden without his hair and started taking pictures with him before his hair is gone....

Cayden behaved really well and he cried only because the barber uncle held his head for too long. Initially the barber wanted to wrap a "Good Morning" towel around Cayden but it looked more like wrapping him up after shower. Daddy and Mummy decided that Cayden shaves his head without any towel around him.
The entire shaving ceremony took less than 4 minutes. Cayden sat on Daddy's lap while Mummy tries to distract Cayden from the boredom of sitting down and not being able to move freely. In just matter of minutes, the barber was richer by $5 and my dear Cayden became botak...

He is still as cute! He is not upset but alittle tired and cranky...

Aunty Linda sang him a song hoping to calm him down.
*Twinkle Twinkle Little Star... How I wonder what you are...*
After a few moments, he is soundly asleep with his buddy. :)

Preparing for THY SHAVE!

It has been decided that Cayden will shave his head this Sunday (17 Jun 2007)! In preparation of this big day, we have to get him a hat to keep him warm in case he goes shopping with Dad & Mum. As usual, the very nice Aunty Linda braved through the GSS crowd to get him what he needed.

Just on 15 Jun alone, the following investments were made:

  • 2 Nursery Rhymes Books - $15.00 in total

  • 1 set of Baby Jumper - $9.90

  • 3 Hats in a Set - Supposingly $9.90 but it didn't cost me a single cent.
The cashier probably didn't notice the tiny hats or he assumed the hats come together with the baby jumper. It was a steal....! God punished me for being dishonest. He sent Unattentive Mum who requested that I handwash the hats before bringing it back to Clementi.

I have been researching and compiling the nursery rhymes over the past 1 week. Some songs are so close to our hearts and brought fond memories back. I was telling my sisters that it is so funny to realise that we have not sang the right version of some of the world famous nursery rhymes for the past 25 years at least! How many of you know the total verses in "London Bridge is Falling Down"? I was surprised to know that London Bridge was once made of Wood and Clay!

The idea of buying him the books about nursery rhyme came about because Cayden loves to listen to me singing those songs! Just last Sunday, I almost turned our dear "Old MacDonald's Farm" into a zoo. In my version, Old MacDonald's Farm had dogs, pigs, cats, horses, zebras, giraffes, cow, sheeps, birds, crocodiles, elephants etc... Old MacDonald should end up as a safari instead of a farm. But Cayden wouldn't let me stop singing. He smiled whenever he hears a new animal name and the sounds I made! Who has the heart to wreck his happy mood?

I am now researching for those chinese nursery rhymes - readers, pls contribute if you know where I could get these info off the net. :)

Trying Pacifier for the 1st Time!

Cayden has been practicising his tongue muscle lately. He has been trying to suck his thumb but was unable to aim properly. On some days, he attempted to suck his arm. Our hearts broke when we saw how desperate Cayden was and finally a decision was made - GIVE HIM A PACIFIER.

We suspected the first pacifier we gave him was a little too small and it keeps dropping off his mouth. Mummy had to coax him into opening his mouth and adapting to the feel of pacifier in his mouth.

We decided that we should give him a new pacifier and eventually bought the NUK brand pacifier which he used only at times but not through out of the day. :) It looks like he is fine with his latest gadget.

Three Months Old

Cayden turned three months old on 21 May 2007.

A few days later on 23 May, Daddy YT brought him to hospital for routine checkup and vaccination. He had his height and weight measurements taken. Results are:
  • Weight: 6.6kg (I suspect the hospital weighing scale is damaged. How could Cayden possibly be only 6.6kg????. He should weigh at least 10 kg because all our arms ached after carrying him!)
  • Height: 61 cm
  • Head Circumference: 39.5 cm

After vaccination, Cayden appeared very listless. Soooooo pooooooor thing!

On the very same day, we celebrated Grandpa's birthday! I bet this year is Ah Gong's happiest year because we've an addition to the family! Cayden was obviously not too interested in why we were feasting on the sushi and sashimi. Fortunately, the lit up candle attracted his attention (check out the picture he took with Grandparents and where his eyes is fixed!).

Too bad Beauty Aunty Yang Ming is unable to join us...

Toilet Training

Grandma has been toilet training Cayden.
It seems that our Connoisseur is pretty happy picking up this new skill - he is so at ease.

What could be the secret to regular bowel movements? Ahhhhh.. apart from regular intake of water, the secret lies in the superb tradition remedy that it is soooooo cheap (S$2.90 per bottle) - JI XIANG PAI RU YI YU! Cayden loves the smell and applies this oil twice a day after his shower - this is literally his perfume.

Attack of the Bugs

Poor Cayden! His unattentive mother used a set of comforter which was a gift from someone. Unfortuantely there appears to be bugs hidden in the set of comforter and the bugs bit Cayden on his face and wrist. :(

The worried mum had to rush Cayden back to Clementi on Saturday night as the bites swell in sizes. Fortunately by now, the swelling has subsided and what's left on Cayden's face are the tiny bumps of bites. The set of comforter should have been washed thoroughly by now I hope.

Our Connoisseur has been a good boy and the tube of Johnson & Johnson Nappy Rash Cream has been useful in reducing the swell.

Speaking of skincare, I've made a trip to the pharmacy at Er's request to buy Cayden's shower gel. My arms almost broke from carrying Cayden and his related stuff... My Dear Cayden, this is the price to pay for being Aunt Linda!

Super Nannies

One of the benefits of being the first baby in an extended family is that there's never a lack of nannies to help. Here's what I mean:

Super Nanny Nomination Candidate # 1 - Grandma Sa Moi

Super Nanny Nomination Candidate #2 - Aunt Janet

Super Nanny Nomination Candidate # 3 - Uncle Sam

Super Nanny Nomination Candidate # 4 - Aunt Linda

Team work is the essence in taking care and nurturing the future generations. The "2007 Super Nanny Award" goes to the Nannies from National Maid Agency!

First Trip to Airport & First Piece of Ear Wax

Cayden made his first trip to Airport two Tuesday ago to send off his Yangming (Beauty) Aunt left for her US internship. He was sooooooooo happy!

His inquisitive nature took over him and he did not sleep much. He made noises so that he could be carried around.

Cayden says, "I want to go there...!"

Earlier that morning, Cayden cried so loudly like never before. It surprised our family so much that they thought Cayden fell off the bed. Everyone rushed into the bedroom and was glad to see him still crying on the bed. They wondered why because Cayden never cried this loud before. Just when they were checking if he poo-ed or urinated, they discovered something next to his ear.... a piece of ear wax about one third the size of a five cents coin!

The GrandParents Ear Wax Theory applied here is:
"The motion of ear wax dropping out from baby's ear and landing on the bed next to a sleeping baby could have resulted in a loud thud in the ears of baby. This is due to the proximity of the ear wax landing location and the ear drum of baby. This created the confusion in baby thinking that something huge landed next to him and the confusion disturbed the baby's sleep. Due to these confusions and irritation, the baby is woken up in cries."
