Toy of the Month

*drum rolls*

The winner is....

Cayden has been chewing on this tiny tortise for the past few weeks at least. The best part seeing Cayden chewing away is his preference to chew only the stuff toy's head. Needless to say, it's typically damp most days but Cayden's mum washes it regularly. I've also discovered Cayden actually bite the toy and tried crawling (like a doggie). :) Let me try to get the video.... it's so funny!

Cayden Loves the Kitchen... and Household Chores?

I have toyed with the idea of Cayden becoming a Gourmet Critic in my previous posts and I have prove to substantiate my prediction. Cayden not only loves to eat, the family suspect he has the passion for cooking and ... doing household chores!

Lately, I have spent most of my time caring for Cayden whenever I return to Clementi. Cayden has this thing about seeing the stove, wok, pots and pans. He loves it when there is food displayed on table at dinner time. He'll kick his feet to signal the direction he wants you to move towards if you have him in your arms. He'll stick his head out as near to the wok as possible to see what is cooked and starts making sound when he gets excited. Cayden has his dinner in the kitchen with the rest of us except he doesn't sit on a proper chair.

Irene Mum said that Cayden has been paying alot of attention to the Magic Cleaner and Wipes. He reaches out to the handle of the Magic Cleaner each time he is near it. He is fascinated with the actions adults display whenever we have the cleaning set on hand. Actually he has a hidden agenda. We discovered that Cayden actually wanted to step on the cleaner!!! Haiz... What a naughty boy!

Itchy Hands...

Disaster struck two Saturdays ago when I was out of the country!

Two smart alec trimmed Cayden's hair.

I heard from Grandma that there was a patch of hair that went missing at the back of Cayden's head.

My Gosh.... I really can't wait to see what exactly happened.

Fell Sick!

Oh dear!

Cayden fell sick on 6th Dec 2007 and visited a doctor. Poor boy! He hates medicine and cried each time he was fed with a dosage.

Aunty Linda is coming home on Thursday to give you the presents... HANG ON!!!

*Edited on 19 Dec 07: Heard that Cayden didn't shower on those days he was ill... oh my... Poor Baby! He loves soaking in the mini bath tub.

Christmas Pressies for Cayden...

.... from Japan!

I am writting this blog in Tokyo and I am half way through my trip here. Weather has been really harsh in Sapporo and Otaru. It was practically snowing everyday. *COLD* Surprisingly Tokyo's weather has been pretty "cooling" so far. Ha!

I've bought some pressies for Cayden:
  • A tiny penguin character from "Surf Up" movie; and
  • A hair shaver/ cutter.

Can't wait for him to have these pressies. ^_^

Mature Look

Oh my.....! I just realised Cayden has just entered into his ninth month yesterday! No wonder he is behaving more and more like an adult each day... Unfortunately Cayden does have the a very mature look too.

Soon Cayden will be attending play schools, primary school... and graduate from University! He'll be apply jobs too. At the rate he is progressing, I am very confident he will go into the Food & Beverage industry. Suddenly I have this urge to do something silly.... a job application letter for Cayden.. :

Editor of Diam Diam Jia Weekly

Dear Sir,

I would like to apply for the Gourmet Critic position available in your esteemed publications "Diam Diam Jia Weekly". I've been eating and drinking since February 2007 and being able to mix pleasure and work has been one of the greatest joy one would ever ask for.

Please find attached a copy of my photo. In the line where a Gourmet Connoisseur is expected to give critics to the food he is trying, the overall presentation of the Critic would be an important as well. I am confident that my looks and level of professionalism would be useful to push the circulation sales of Diam Diam Jia Weekly.

I am contactable via my personal blog at www.connoisseurcayden.blogspot.com.
Looking forward to your response to discuss potential opportunities.

Sincerely,
Cayden Koh

Can't Wait...

Cayden has this impatient side of him and he expresses this emotion by crying. He can't wait for:
  • milk;
  • porridge and cereal to be served;
  • diapers to be changed without lying on his back for too long;
  • water after shower;
  • Daddy & Mummy to carry him when they are back from work and with one feet stepped into the house!
Usually Cayden is pretty mild in temperament and he generally smiles when he sees familiar faces. When we brought him out to Takashimaya on Sunday, there were at least 3 other passerbys could not resist to comment that Cayden is a happy baby. Cayden started laughing and talking to himself when he was at Paragon basement. He was soooooooooo happy when he was in Toys R Us.

We returned back to Clementi after the shopping trip and Cayden was left in my care. I had to put him in playpen on several occasions as I was busy with something. He just started smiling and laughing to himself. He loves standing by himself in the playpen. In time to come, he'll soon attempt to walk and we'll be getting lovely shoes for him. Cant' wait for that day to come soon... :)

No No No...

Cayden picked up a new motor skill and that is shaking his head.

When he rejects anyone, he used to look away and avoid eye contact with anyone. In the past 1 week, he started shaking his head. He shook his head so violent that we were wondering if he did it for fun or he understood the meaning behind shaking his head.

We tested him and asked if he wanted milk before bed, he shook his head because he didn't want to sleep. We tried again and asked he wanted to pacifier, he shook his head and he refused to suck the pacifier even though we have tried putting the pacifier into his mouth.

In conclusion, Cayden understood when he needed to shake his head.

Celebrating Aunty Yang Ming's Birthday

On 21 Oct, Cayden turned 8 months old! Coincidentally, that day happens to be Aunty Yang Ming's birthday and we planned a mini bbq session the day before and had a cake celebration on the actual day. The weekend had been eventful.

Cayden started the Sat with a visit to the ICA for passport application. He had his passport photo taken at ICA and he looks like a school boy! Hehe!

Then we had bbq at Cayden's place. This means Cayden gets to visit the pool and stroll around the estate. He had loads of fun including getting entertained by Uncle Sam who was busy trying to get the fire started at the pit. However, too much fun is not exactly good for children. Cayden could not sleep well that night and w
hen he threw tantrums late into the night, he got scolded by Uncle Sam (for the first time) and kept very quiet then after.

The adults at home actually started to miss the younger Cayden:
1) The younger Cayden who would finish every drop of milk and not cry to ask for more food.

2) The younger Cayden who would not destroy things.

3) The younger Cayden who would not fight or quarrel with Grandparents and Mum.

Finally Teething & Crawling...!

Cayden is finally teething. The bottom set of two front teeth finally came up and the upper set of two front teeth is popping out too.

We've been feeding him with loads of stuffs to help him pass through this painful teething stage. He's helping himself to Rusks and some baby biscuits. I think Cayden is happier than painful now because he gets to eat. I mean he really eats ALOT and sometimes as much as me for dinner and here's a SMS to attest:

Irene HP, 7 Oct 07, 11:07 am
ONN finished 150 ml milk at 8 b4 stroll. Ard 9:15 finished a bowl of banana plum oats, been zzz since 9:45. Already boiled and mash broccoli. Waiting to cook fish porridge and bathe.

Cayden came by to Edelweiss Park last Sunday. We took this opportunity to take a picture of him with a completely full stomach. He is simply adorable and irressistable! Cayden sat unassisted on the couch and had so many cushions around him. I strongly believe Cayden enjoys the environment at Edelweiss. I was totally surprised to realise that Cayden is finally recognizing the environment and the people around him. When Cayden received grandparents at his Serangoon apartment. He acknowledged their existence by blinking his eyes several times and started kicking the air.

When he came over to Edelweiss, he was practically scouting the environment and checking out the furnitures, lamps and walls before acknowledging Sam and me. He was so excited to see the pool and started talking to us about it.

At around 5-ish that day, Mom and Aunties decided to bring Cayden to the playground and pool. I could see the word BLISS written all over his face. We started the walk and spotted a banana tree in the balcony of an apartment in the ground floor. We proceeded to the playground and Cayden rode on a bike, a dinosaur and a 4-seater see saw. I carried Cayden up and down the structures on the playgroun. We do not think Cayden was satisfied with seeing the kids at the playground. We proceeded to the lower deck pool. Cayden completely ignored everyone when his feet was submerged in water. He was so happy! We then brought him up to the upper deck pool where children playground was built into the pool. When Cayden saw the water spurting out from the playground, he went hesterical and started talking non-stop! *CUTE* We went back home with a slightly wet diapers.

Over the past week, I received another surprise that Cayden did his first crawl on 10 October 2007. At 8.32 pm, I've received a SMS from Da that says:

Yeah! Cayden just started crawling woh.
I can't wait to see Cayden today!

Celebrating Mid Autumn Festival

Time flies! I have not been updating this blog for nearly a month and I just have to find time to continue with my updates on Cayden's progress before my memory fails me... Let me start with the Mid Autumn Festival celebration. On 21 Sept 07 at 22:30 hrs, I've received a SMS from Da that read:

He juz got his 1st lantern. We bring him carry lantern on Sunday nite.

Oh boy! Cayden is celebrating Mid Autumn Festival with us this year and he has a lantern. The first thoughts that crossed my mind was "Damned! It must be a battery-operated lantern that comes with some cheesy melody!". I had the opportunity to return to Clementi two days after receiving the SMS and I was delighted to find out that the music coming out from the lantern was not at all cheesy and it was nursery rhyme. PHEW! I was even amused to see how huge the lantern was and my dear Cayden could carry it with one hand. Grandma couldn't help feeling so proud that her grandson grew so strong.

We are proud of Grandma's ability to keep Cayden cubby these while. In fact, a secret recipe in keeping him so round and adorable is a balanced diet. Cayden has been eating a big bowl of porridge everyday (and even everyone says he usually eats more than me most evening).

Over Sunday, Grandma cooked too much of the fish porridge and I was ordered to clear the remaining portion from the pot. Cayden's caregivers always ensure he gets a wide array of food including rice cereal, broccolli, ikan billis, sweet potatoes and fish. The best part after feeding him is to see how big Cayden's stomach grows. It is certainly round and big!

First Steps!

We are finally reaching another Cayden's milestone!

Cayden is learning to stand on his own and rolling back either of his sides.

I was at Clementi yesterday and for once, I saw Cayden crying. We believed he was hungry but didn't have the appetite because his gums were sore. He is going to be teething soon. For a good two hours, we tried to pacify him but all efforts went down the drain until he finished his bowl of sweet potato rice cereal. Then after he took a nap. When he woke up an hour later, our Connoisseur couldn't stop smiling.

WE LOVE CAYDEN SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!

A Wonderful Week in Sept

I spent the first week of September 2007 back at Clementi. In the absence of Gor Gor Sam, I returned home to help kill time as well as to assure parents that I have my dinner everyday. I believe Cayden had great time seeing more people at home keeping him company at home in the evening.

It was absolutely fun because having Cayden around made the difference. The mood at home has been so light and joyous since he arrived.

I finally witnessed how lovely Cayden is whenever he wakes up especially early in the morning! He never created much problem in the middle of the night. On the first two nights, he slept through and woke up at 5 am, drank milk and went back to bed in half an hour. On the final night, he slept through the night between 9.30 pm and 7 am! For this cooperative behaviour, I promised a huggy pillow for Cayden.

It was a wonderful week for everyone. Cayden had extra toys!
  • A crawling baby,
  • A wriggling worm,
  • A barking dog,
  • A building block to build his motorskills, and
  • A piece of Traditional Bamboo Seat!

There's something about the bamboo seat that all should know. It has been one of the longest service piece of furniture at home! It served not just my oldest sister, my elder sister (Cayden's mum), me and Aunty YangMing! It started working 35 years ago and continued its service for almost another 13 years (at least) before it went into semi-retirement. It was only this month it returned back in action for Cayden.

Grandparents thought Cayden should feel comfortable and not bored. They added cushions and a toy! The wisdom of our parents and their experience in taking care of children remain relevant now.

A'HOY MATES....!

The Pirates of the Caribbean craze isn't over yet at least at home. I think apart from Johnny Depp, Cayden just got to be the next best looking pirate!

Naturally Cayden attracted so much attention of which some maybe unwanted...

Unfortunately on Sunday, he had some tummy upset possibly due to over dosage of carrots. As his babysitter for the day, I had to bear with the stench from "his output". *POOR ME* Anyway, Connoisseur is on the road to recovery. He was a little cranky on Sunday towards the night but we managed to make him take short naps in between his pirate performances.

It has been enjoyable to see Cayden napping. As our Connoisseur grows, he begins to demonstrate habits of adults which I believe are innate. Who would expect a baby to sleep on his sides unassisted? Are you able to identify his silhouette in the playpen...?

6 Months Old!

Cayden turns 6 months old today!!!

In another 6 months, we'll be celebrating Connoisseur's first birthday. :)

In the last doctor's visit, he had his weight and height taken. He was 7.4 kg and 64 cm tall. It was a little unbelievable that he weighs less than a package of 10 kg rice... Anyway, he was told he would be visiting doctor and will receive jabs. Miraculously, he didn't cry at all and smiled to Grandma when she helped him get dressed after the jab! Grandma called him Gentleman as he behaved really well.

He is growing really fast and will be teething soon. Fortunately Aunty YangMing is back in town to care for Cayden and share the joy in growing with Cayden. In the recent weeks, he started putting his right index finger and thumb into his mouth. It seems that Cayden is munching something tasty... Yummy...!

The Bumbo Chair

Connoisseur had his head shaven two days back on Monday (17 Aug 07) and he looks suave as ever. I was back at home on Monday and spent 2 hours with parents and Cayden. I had fun!

Cayden's expressions are endless these days. The realisation that he could control his muscles made the entire growing up experience fun for Cayden and our family. Cayden delivered a new surprise on Monday. He pouted his lips and boo-ed in an attempt to splatter his saliva to whoever he is facing! Wahahaha! He looks exactly like Crayon Shinchan whenever he pout his lips.

Cayden's parents decided to buy him more toys now that he is picking up more motor skills. Connoisseur is growing stronger by the day and will not be contented lying on the bed soon. An investment was made last evening to keep Connoisseur a happy baby. An additional furniture was added to Clementi last evening and it is a Bumbo Chair (http://www.bumbobabysitter.com/ or http://www.bumboseat.com/).

The investment was made on the Bumbo seat for several beneficial reasons:
"The Bumbo Seat is a new concept in infant chairs. It is a snug and cozy environment for babies. This revolutionary infant chair is designed to fit a baby’s posture. Babies can sit upright in a Bumbo Seat as soon as they have head control. More importantly, it helps them develop the trunk control they need to sit up on their own. It is recommended by pediatricians, orthopedists, and physical therapists as well.".

This is a good investment. Cayden was happily boo-ing away in his personal chair.

An Earful from Mum

Haha! I can't help but be gloating over how Cayden received an earful from his Mum just when I was drafting the earlier post. He realised Mum has an authority over him and no one will give in to him no matter how much funny sound he makes.

In the recent weeks, Cayden realises his potential to create different types of sounds using his vocals and has been behaving like a "crow" (which can actually be quite funny and cute)! Just 15 mins ago, he got an earful from his mum. He didn't dare to retaliate and just look at mum quietly in repentenace. 15 mins later, he is fast asleep lying on his side in his playpen. *PEACE*

He gets too excited and kicks his feet non-stop into the air. As a result, he finds difficulty getting proper sleep into the night. There were several times he woke up crying just hours into the sleep.

Dear Cayden Boy, You are sweet enough for anyone to resist so don't crow anymore. :-)

More Updates to Come.. Stay Tuned!

Oh Gosh! Cayden is approaching his 6th month. YAY!!!

It is nearly one month since I blogged. Thanks to the nasty flu bug that kept me drowsy for the past one month! Fortunately Cayden didn't catch the bug from me. :)

Cayden has been doing very fine in the past one month. Grandma labelled him "Gentleman". He tried many things for the first time and that include:
  • Swimming (or rather taking a dip in the pool),
  • Eating apples,
  • Eating rice cereals,
  • Constipated (arghhhhhh),
  • Not crying after receiving his third set of vaccination jabs and
  • Rolling over unassisted!!!

I am starting to feel the pressure of not editing his photos quick enough. Have to start learning how to post the videos online so that I can share the funny moments on the blog here.

Another update to share - Mei Nu Aunty Yangming is finally back from her USA internship yesterday. Cayden finally met someone dear (again) who also took care of him in the initiate two months.

More updates to come... stay tuned!

Dinner at Inter Continental

On 30 Jun, we had dinner at Olive Tree. It was sort of a Father's Day celebration. Grand-Aunt was invited along as the restaurant was offering a one-for-one promotion. Cayden brought his buddy along as well and shared the limited space in stroller with Teddy.

Cayden only drank milk and looked at the cups which we sipped our coffee and tea from. He also couldn't take his eyes off the saucers that we eat the pastries and desserts from. It was sooooooo funny!

The dinner was possibly the 3rd time Grand-Aunt saw Cayden. It was funny looking at the older folks in the family taking turns to babysit Cayden. Pictures always tell a thousand words.

Cayden also saw Lilian Too's twin.... Those who at the dinner probably knew who I was referring to. KEKEKE!

Anyway, Cayden will get a chance to see Grand Aunt again as he will be visiting an addition to Grandma's maternal family this weekend. Mummy's cousin had a baby girl weeks ago and it is approaching a month since she arrived. Somehow, the first months of newborn always brought to mind how Cayden suffered in his first few weeks of arrival. Mummy always feel sad and there were a few times she wept....

Flipped and Up!

Flipped....
Uuuuuppp...

and UP!

How amazing Cayden pick up this skill although he still needs help in flipping. Its a matter of time he does it without assistance.

According to Mummy, Cayden has been giving daily dosage of Tummy Time. Tummy Time is not about poo-ing. It is the daily routine of putting Cayden on his tummy so that he could exercise his back muscles and strengthen his spine. It started with a daily dosage of two times of 1 minute Tummy Time when he was about 4 months old, then increase duration of each Tummy Time. This will prepare Babies for the fffffffffffffflip!

Cayden is Growing Fast and Strong

Cayden is growing fast and strong. In about 2 weeks, he is due for his third set of immunization jab on 24 Jul 07.

Grandma has been exceptionally worried. Basing on how Cayden has reacted after he received his second set of immunization jab, Grandma was worried Cayden would refuse to drink milk like he did the last time. Cayden has been hearing Grandma preaching about drink more milk. The Grandma's Theory of Immunization states that:

"Babies should drink alot of milk especially before those jabs. The fats accumulated in babies before the jab is important. Most babies would have a tendancy to fall sick or feeling constantly grouchy and hence affects their appetite for milk for a period following the jabs. As a result, babies lose weight fast and shrink in size by the time the immunization effects wear off."

Fortunately Cayden has been pretty cooperative. He drinks milk and water throughout the day. Hopefully by the time his little Auntie Yangming comes back, he weighs the best he could be. Unfortunately, there's no pictures to share for now - Aunty Linda has no time to edit the picture these few weeks but promise to get some pictures up in the next entry.

Our little Connoisseur also started to munch his feet earlier this week. Very soon, he will be crawling all over the apartment and asking "WHY" on everything. Can't wait for this day to come soon. :)

Botak Cayden

Yes - Cayden is finally botak!

Connoisseur was really cool about it. Instead it was the people around him who got really nervous and excited. Connoisseur was more interested to catch up on his nap rather than getting his hair shaved... hence he was actually more cranky than cool.

The entire family couldn't bear to see Cayden without his hair and started taking pictures with him before his hair is gone....

Cayden behaved really well and he cried only because the barber uncle held his head for too long. Initially the barber wanted to wrap a "Good Morning" towel around Cayden but it looked more like wrapping him up after shower. Daddy and Mummy decided that Cayden shaves his head without any towel around him.
The entire shaving ceremony took less than 4 minutes. Cayden sat on Daddy's lap while Mummy tries to distract Cayden from the boredom of sitting down and not being able to move freely. In just matter of minutes, the barber was richer by $5 and my dear Cayden became botak...

He is still as cute! He is not upset but alittle tired and cranky...

Aunty Linda sang him a song hoping to calm him down.
*Twinkle Twinkle Little Star... How I wonder what you are...*
After a few moments, he is soundly asleep with his buddy. :)

Preparing for THY SHAVE!

It has been decided that Cayden will shave his head this Sunday (17 Jun 2007)! In preparation of this big day, we have to get him a hat to keep him warm in case he goes shopping with Dad & Mum. As usual, the very nice Aunty Linda braved through the GSS crowd to get him what he needed.

Just on 15 Jun alone, the following investments were made:

  • 2 Nursery Rhymes Books - $15.00 in total

  • 1 set of Baby Jumper - $9.90

  • 3 Hats in a Set - Supposingly $9.90 but it didn't cost me a single cent.
The cashier probably didn't notice the tiny hats or he assumed the hats come together with the baby jumper. It was a steal....! God punished me for being dishonest. He sent Unattentive Mum who requested that I handwash the hats before bringing it back to Clementi.

I have been researching and compiling the nursery rhymes over the past 1 week. Some songs are so close to our hearts and brought fond memories back. I was telling my sisters that it is so funny to realise that we have not sang the right version of some of the world famous nursery rhymes for the past 25 years at least! How many of you know the total verses in "London Bridge is Falling Down"? I was surprised to know that London Bridge was once made of Wood and Clay!

The idea of buying him the books about nursery rhyme came about because Cayden loves to listen to me singing those songs! Just last Sunday, I almost turned our dear "Old MacDonald's Farm" into a zoo. In my version, Old MacDonald's Farm had dogs, pigs, cats, horses, zebras, giraffes, cow, sheeps, birds, crocodiles, elephants etc... Old MacDonald should end up as a safari instead of a farm. But Cayden wouldn't let me stop singing. He smiled whenever he hears a new animal name and the sounds I made! Who has the heart to wreck his happy mood?

I am now researching for those chinese nursery rhymes - readers, pls contribute if you know where I could get these info off the net. :)

Trying Pacifier for the 1st Time!

Cayden has been practicising his tongue muscle lately. He has been trying to suck his thumb but was unable to aim properly. On some days, he attempted to suck his arm. Our hearts broke when we saw how desperate Cayden was and finally a decision was made - GIVE HIM A PACIFIER.

We suspected the first pacifier we gave him was a little too small and it keeps dropping off his mouth. Mummy had to coax him into opening his mouth and adapting to the feel of pacifier in his mouth.

We decided that we should give him a new pacifier and eventually bought the NUK brand pacifier which he used only at times but not through out of the day. :) It looks like he is fine with his latest gadget.
